Post Triathalon

So I finished the Triathalon :) I had a little panic attack when I started the swim, we'll one when I saw the swim course and how far it actually was and one when I got about 20 yds. from shore. I thought about calling the kayak dude over to take me back to shore because I was done...no way was a I finishing :) After 5 people climbed over the top of me... I just laid on my back and slowly made my way until I got my breathing under control, before I knew it I was almost to the first buoy. Then I knew I could finish, even though I would be dead when I got out of the water. The rest was hard but I could do it. I made me realize I need to be in much better shape before doing this again...but that I could do it when I didn't think I could. I am so glad I did it and I am glad I was able to do it with my sisters :) They were sick of me asking a million stupid questions because I was so nervous :) It was awesome and ready to train for my next one :)

So I am doing a Triathalon this saturday...just a sprint and I am feeling very nervous. I should have prepared a little more. I realized this yesterday when I went to pick up my packet and I was surrounded by people who were...shall I say...extremely fit (refer to pictures posted) :) I do not happen to be one of those people. I am trying but it is slow going :) So as I was standing there waiting in line with my sister with a very panic stricken look on my face....I told her I just hope to not embarrass myself :) My goal is to... #1 finish and without puking hopefully and #2 to cross the finish line before they do the medals ceremony. Becuase that would be really embarrassing to be comin' across as everyone else is collecting their medals...I wonder if there is a medal for last place :)

I thought about wearing something similar to these lovely triathalon participates...but I think there will be too much chaffing :) I think I will opt for something else :)

Family Cruise

In April we went on a family cruise with my Mom's side of the family. It was so awesome. We had about 40 people and it was the best! For a lot of people it was great. Everyone had space, no one had to make any meals, everything was just done for us. I loved it. I wore the motion sickness patch and it was much better this time, highly recommend it. I had so much fun with all of my family, it was great to spend time with family I don't get to see very often...I'm ready to go again!!

Hawaii

So I know it has been a very, very, very long time since I have posted ANYTHING on this here blog. That is because life is boring and nothing ever happens, which is a good thing I guess...but we did just go to HAWAII. It was the best trip ever!! I don't know what you have hear about Hawaii, but it's pretty cool :) It was fun to go back to all my favorite spots that I loved when I went to BYU Hawaii. I can't believe it was 8 years ago when I went, crazy!! Lots of great memories and fun times :) Dave and I had a great time basking in the sun enjoying the awesome weather :) I talked Dave into splurging a little and to rent a convertible while we were there, they upgraded us so we had a nice 2010 Volvo convertible. Unfortunately for Dave, now I want a Volvo.... convertible :) It was well worth it too, it was fun to drive that around to take in the surroundings. The best part is whenever someone saw what are last name was on a credit card they always asked Dave if he was Polynesian, ha, ha!! We thought this was hilarious since Dave has the whitest skin you have ever seen.....except for maybe Lincoln :) Then they would say, "Are you sure your not?" Needless to say I love Hawaii and I think Dave needs to look for a job there, I would be down with It :) So now I am officially ready for flip-flop weather!!!

Junior Prom

So I am from a small town where Junior Prom is a big deal. Many find this weird but hey, it's TRADITION! So for prom they decorate the school gym. It can be pretty decked out; they get out of class to decorate, organize and to learn a promenade. The community comes and the junior's get presented and they dance for everyone and then they dance with their parents. Wierd, but that's what small towns are about :) So the last child at home just had her prom. (No more proms for the Richins family, yes!!) My other sister and little brother made it up to support her. Here are a few pictures of her beautiful dress and the family.

DECEMBER

The beginning of December I took a trip with 2 of my aunts, my mom and my sister to San Diego. We went to my cousins wedding, my sister was the photographer so we all tagged along. It was a great little weekend trip. We had so much fun! Thanks Rohrers for letting us come and crash at the rental house! It was so fun to see everyone and to be together! As you can tell the weather was a little cold, but hey if there is no snow, I am happy :)

Christmas we spent up at my parents house and then the whole family went to St. George for a week to meet up with some other cousins and aunts. It was great and there was no snow :) We played lots of games and ate lots of food :) We took a day and went to Vegas. My favorite thing in Vegas is the Bellagio water show, yes I am a nerd I know.

We played a game and one of the cards I drew I had to choose 1 out 5 things I would do on the card. Believe me, this was least embarrassing and the easiest :)

While we were waiting for the water show to start, little miss impatient Ashlee was clicking a pen and it exploded all over her hands, it was so funny :)

My favorite part of Vegas! The first one when we got there was the Titanic song and I was ticked off because the last time I was in Vegas (5 yrs ago) it was the same show so I wanted something new!! Then they started doing the christmas songs.....then I was happy again :)

Thanksgiving

So we had Thanksgiving at our house. Dave's mom and sister flew in from Denver and we managed to fit everyone at our house. It was so fun to have everyone together. My sister took some pictures of Dave's family and emailed me a couple, I will post more when she gets them to me. She did a great job! Little Linc is so cute in the boys picture! We love our little Linc and Shiloh.

Halloween

It always sounds so fun to dress up but then I'm sick of my costume after about 5 minutes. At my dental office this year we all made vampire teeth out of the acrylic that temporaries are made out of. So we were all vampires. As you can see some got the contacts and they scared every little kid that came it; it was kind of funny. I also dressed up for the YW/YM halloween party here are a few pics.

I can't believe August is almost over! I am super excited for fall, but this summer has been so fun and I am sad to see it ending :( Here are some of things we have been doing. A few weeks ago Dave and I went to Cincinnati with Trav and stayed with Trav's family and we went to a Tennis Tournament while we where there. It was so relaxing!!! Mostly because Trav's mom is the best hostess ever; I even had chocolates on my pillow every night :) We went boating, went to King's island, watched tons of tennis and of course, did some major shopping :)

We took the boat down through the center of town; docked and ate at a restaurant that had really good ribs!

At King's Island; I rode mmmmm...1 ride. I get motion sickness so bad; I am a blast at amusement parks!

Roger Federer, he is one of our favorites.

Tommy Haas, he is one of my favorites.....It might have something to do with his rockin' abs :)

Andy Roddick..... too bad he is playing kind of crappy right now.

The last Tennis match we saw. It was between Federer and Ginepri, it was sooooo hot that day!!

When we got back from Cincinnati I went to Bear Lake with family while Dave had to stay and finish up the last week of his school. I had never been to Bear Lake before and I loved it. It was so beautiful there and we stayed in a super sweet house that had a steam room and dry sauna.... I was loving it.

When I got back from Bear Lake I left Dave again to go to LA to visit my brother and his wife. It was great! I was able to read Breaking Dawn at the Beach, shop at H&M (my favorite store on earth), go to Universal Studios and eat tons of great food :)

When we got to Universal Studios I saw a Top Chef trailer... I was super excited; We love that show and I got to meet my two favorite contestants and they cooked us some food :)

Youth Conference

So I went to youth conference this last weekend with some of the young women. Yes... I got called to be in the young women's; which is kind of weird because I feel like I just got out of young women's. I seriously feel like it was yesterday, even though it was almost 10 years ago! So we went up to Utah State and is was so fun. We have the best young women in our ward and they are so awesome, it was great to spend a few days with them; I'm not sure if they feel the same :)

Graduation

So my little brother graduated from High School this week! Super weird. It's been super fun to watch him play sports this year. The football team took state earlier in the year and Jake also did track and he took state in the hurdles last week. My mom is down to one kid at home. I don't know what she will do when McCall graduates!

Vacation/Wedding

So the past couple of weeks have been pretty crazy. My brother got married in St. George and then we had to hurry back to pack and fly out to California for the cruise. The cruise was pretty sweet except I did get motion sickness :( If I was on the upper decks and had air I was ok. The best thing about a cruise is you eat whenever you want and I did! I gained 10 lbs. on the cruise; which I don't need and now I am an a serious diet :) It was great weather and very, very, relaxing. We went to several places in Mexico; Cobo San Lucas, Mazatlan and Puerta Vueratta (I don't know if I spelled those right; oh well). Cobo was my favorite. Here are several pictures of what I have been doing the last couple weeks. Now it's back to work and real life :( I won't have anything to post about for several months now because my life is pretty boring :(

We're going on a cruise !

So we are going on cruise leaving April 16! Just about 4 weeks away :) I am just hoping that I don't get sick; I get motion sickness really bad so I just hope the ship won't be bad. With today being snowy and cold I am really excited to go. Plus I just can't seem to find my summer clothes from last year; guess I better buy a few! I hate it when that happens :)

San Diego

So this last weekend Dave had a work trip in San Deigo so I decided to go with him. It was great to get away for few days. The weather was pretty nice there. We are nerds and we went to the San Diego zoo. I have heard it is awesome so we went. It was really fun. Here are a few pictures of some of the animals. So we are finally in our new home. It seems that it took us forever to get moved in. We were supposed to move before christmas. We stayed up until about 3:00 in the morning to get everything put in boxes because we had movers coming so we could get moved in one day because we were leaving for Denver. So we showed up to do our final walk through and do closing and they had to pull our carpet up due to a small leak. So that was super crappy but I was glad that it was taken care of the right way. So we still had to pack for Denver and everything was packed up. So we dug through boxes to pack and went and stayed at a friends house until we left for Denver. We were in Denver for about a week and came home and we still had 5 days until we closed. So we ate fast food for like 2 weeks straight; not good for the the already struggling figure :) So anyway we are finally moved in and it's so nice. It's a small place but it's ours and everything is new. I will post some pictures soon. We still don't have internet yet but hopefully we will soon.

Moving

I hate moving :) It is the worst. We found out a couple weeks ago they were going to have us close on our condo before x-mas since we are going to be gone for the week of christmas. So we have been packing and trying to get ready. I hate packing; it is the worst thing ever. We have given about 5-6 huge garbage sacks the the D.I. and I'm not done yet. I would rather throw things away than pack it up. I have posted a few pictures of us throwing away our couches. These are my husbands Grandparents couches they we have lived with for the past 3 yrs. which my husband used during his college days. They are so old and we hate them :) We couldn't wait to destroy them. We close the 21st of Dec. and then we are gone for christmas so pictures will follow.

Ligmajet!

So I gave a lig injection for the first time yesterday! In my office the hygienist's give about 90% of the docs injections. So I have had lots of practice :) So we have a Ligmajet in our office. Ya, when they first asked me to give one I was like, um....what's that? Don't worry I didn't sound stupid at all :) It is the pressure anesthesia. He will use it if he is only working on one tooth and it's not deep or if a block is missed and he is ready to go to work. The pt. is numb immediately and they only stay numb for about 20-30 min. So yesterday he was working on the buccal of #19, so instead of block he wanted me to just give a lig. It was super easy to do and you can see the tissue blanch and the pt. isn't numb forever. See all these things I am learning being out of school :)

New Car :)

So we did buy a new car. We actually have had it about a month now. We bought a 2004 Honda Accord V6 and we love it. Now that we have a nicer car we want to get rid of my car sooooooo bad. It is torture to have to drive that thing now. But it's worth not having a car payment :) I loved working with the place that we bought it at. We bought it at Rand's auto. You can print their inventory list off at randsauto.com They were so great to deal with and they were the lowest prices around. I highly recommend it. We are starting to get ready to move in to our condo, it is expected to be done the end of next month. We have been shopping for couches and looking for stuff that we need, it's so fun. So anyway, life is good and busy and so glad I am done with school :)

Car Problems :)

So this has been a really fun week for us and our cars :) Dave and I both have super old crappy cars. We have known that we were going to have to buy a car in the next few months but we wanted to wait until we were in our house and stuff. We could not make Dave's car last. So Dave's car is an '83 Mercedes Benz, super old. He just uses it to drive to work and back so we thought we could make it last. That was not the case :) On wed. night Dave calls me at about 9:00 when we was coming home from school and said he was stranded on the side of the road and that he was pretty sure that his engine like blew up. So luckily I have triple A which I recommend to anyone with old cars. We called to get it towed and they took like an hour and half to come. So while we were waiting in my car I had turned the key off but I wasn't paying attention and I didn't turn it off all they way. So I went to start it after we had been there for and hour and my car was dead. We were stranded on the freeway with two crappy cars that wouldn't start :) We called my brother in-law to come jump my car. When the tow truck got there, he was really confused to which car he was towing:) He was pretty sure that the engine was a goner too. So I was kind of excited because we finally get to buy a new car :) The timing wasn't the best but I was super excited. We will finally have a car with AC yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes another new template, I got on one day and the whole thing was crazy, I don't know what happened to it. So get used to me changing it every week :) So it has been awhile since I posted and I have job boys and girls!!!!! It is two days a week right now but will probably go to full-time here in a few months ( one of the hygienist's is having a baby). It is good, I like it. I have an hour for each pt. and the office is pretty nice and laid back. The best part is that it is pretty close to my house :) When I move it's going to be a little farther but that's life. So it's getting to be the end of summer and I was thinking back to a year ago and I was gearing up for my last year of school. I am so glad I don't have to do that anymore :) !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It has finally hit me that I am done with school now that this is the time I would be going back. It is so nice to be done and it's nice to have some regular money coming in :) It has been stressful finding a job that I like but was worth it in the end. Things do work out!

Another new template!

Yes as you can see I have another new template. I change my template like I change my underwear.......... don't worry, I change my underwear often. Anyway, I temped today and it was pretty good. I did see a pt. every 40 min or less but I had help so it went well. They asked my if they could call me to temp, they get temps often, I said sure! It's not like I have any other options right now. Anyway, it was good and I love getting paid at the end of the day :)

So yes I am still looking for a job, it is crappy. Too bad there are so many offices I don't want to work in :) There is one office I interviewed at that I would like to work there so I should know by this week so we'll see what happens. I did do a working interview yesterday at an office that I don't really want to work in but I had the funniest experience with a patient. First of all I did SRP on this patient, which was sweet, and I had to give her two injections (PSA and IA) and I got a positive aspiration on the PSA. All through school I never got a + aspiration so it was good to finally get one because I was like oh, you can definetely tell and you barely have to pull back on the syringe so that was good. So I finish both quads and so I am talking to her about brushing and flossing and the importance and all the good stuff. When I started to talk to her about flossing she says to me, " I don't really want to floss because I don't want it to seperate my teeth and cause spaces." It took everything I had at this point to not start laughing hysterically! So I explained that flossing is not going to seperate your teeth, it doesn't have that much pressure. It was so funny because she had so much calculus, I'm thinking to myself wow, you will let your teeth get nasty and bleed but you won't floss because it's going to seperate your teeth. Interesting!

Well today was my first day working as an RDH. I worked in Dr. Bliss's office today. I interviewed with him a couple of weeks ago. So I guess it was kind of a working interview except he wasn't there :) The doctor that he is phasing out was working today and he was so nice. The staff is super great and I would really like to work there so, we'll see what happens. I was super nervous and really worried about staying on time (50 min. appt.). I amazingly stayed on time, barely stayed on time. So I was somewhat proud of myself. The best part was the paycheck at the end of the day. Dave is out of town for work and I am not working tomorrow so.........I will be shopping :)

What the crap!! It totally sucks waiting for a license. You're hands are tied. It is wierd because some people recieved theirs in the past couple of days but most of us are stuck waiting. Most jobs when I call say, call me when you have your license. I hope they come soon!

So our scores came way sooner than I thought. I got a text from Aimee saying that she passed. I couldn't believe she got them that soon. I called Ames and she said go check your mail now. I was in these silky pj's. Come on it was Sat. morning. I was just cleaning and doing stuff around the house. I told Ames I couldn't due to my lovely wardrobe. Being Amiee she yelled at me to go check my mail who cares what you look like and she wanted to stay on the line. So I ran outside in my pj's (no bra :)) to check my mail to get my results. I get out there and they are not there, HAAAAAAGH!! So I naturally started freaking out and checked my mail about every 5 minutes thereafter. I went to the gym to pass the time and to try and manage my stress. I got home and I saw the mailman in our complex, checked my mail and he hadn't been to our box yet. I thought about running him down to get my results but I went inside instead to wait. Dave checked the mail around 4:00 and they were there. I could tell I passed right away because I could see the white card through the window so the stress went away. I opened it up and saw that I got 100% !!!!!!!!!!!! I started screaming and tackled my husband, it was sweet! I have never been so happy in my entire life. I had so much relief after that. IT"S OVER. Now I have to go get a job, crap.

Last Day of Clinic

The last day of clinic was good. I had my board pt. come in so that a couple instructors could check him out and ease my fears. It was nice just to have a couple of people check him. You always feel better after you have a couple 2nd opinions. I think he will be a pretty solid board pt., which is such a relief. It was super wierd to think that it was my last day of clinic though. I started cleaning out my drawers a little bit and I started to get a little misty. Don't get me wrong, I am super stoked about never having to schedule/find patients! That is probably the best part. I just started getting a little sad thinking that I wasn't going to see everyone at least a couple of times a week, it just kind of made me a little sad. So, if my last day in clinic made me a little sad then I can only imagine what the banquet is going to be like :)
It is so wierd to look back on school and remember all the things we experienced. I know have to go out on my own and make the decisions, I won't have an instructor to ask questions. WIERD! I am super excited about the future and I am super excited about getting a paychekc whoooooo!! I'm sure my husband will appreciate the paycheck too!! Love all of you guys and I will miss everyone :(

Last Day of Class!!!! :)

So today was the last day of class whooooo!!! I can't believe how fast it came. I took my very last test in chitester whoooo!!! I have this wierd feeling though, I still have pressure from boards and finishing up these last few things and so I should not be stressed anymore but I am. Jenny and I finished our bachelor's paper and while we were doing it we started playing with photo booth. It is one of the many joys that comes on my Mac. It entertains me for hours. As you can see it makes you look super hot! ENJOY!

Board Screening

So the board screening went pretty well. We didn't find a ton of board pt's but a few to make somewhat of a dent in the need for them. I wish we could have found more so we can start accumulating back ups but we did what we could. I am glad that one of the girls from the salvation army qualified. They all just wanted their teeth cleaned so bad so I am glad that they can get some cleaned.

So today was pretty good, I had a pt. who was a board pt. and I think that I saved Des's life. He had really good calculus and I think he will be good. I then found a class III that I was help to help the first year who gave me a board pt. so I was glad I was able to do that. It is crazy that it is almost the end of semester!!! Graduation is so close and I am so excited and slightly sad to not see everyone every day. I'm sure I will get over it as soon as I start making money!!

BOARD PT. WHOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!

So my mockboard didn't show up last time but I found a board pt. so who cares about the mockboard. I found a board pt. baby!!!! So Kristi is the nicest person ever and gave me one of her patients for a board pt. I am pretty excited because he is such a nice guy and totally underderstands the situation so it is great. For example his blood pressure was a little bit high when he saw Kristi and so he has been walking every day to get his blood pressure down for when he see's me. Talk about the nicest person ever. I just hope he qualifies, which I think he will, because he is great and so I am excited about him being my board pt.

Mockboard :(

So my mockboard pt. didn't show up today. It was fabulous. He had never had his teeth cleaned and I was hoping he would be a possible board pt. too. It sucks when people don't show up. Sometimes it just gives you that pit in your stomach and you're not quit sure what to do. So needless to say I did not get any points for mock, my time was in the afternoon so I didn't have the option of going later like you do when your in the A.M. Oh well, what can you do! I also didn't feel very good that day so it was pretty crappy all in all :)

So today Jenny and I had to do a little presentation on our CMC project. It went better than expected. We were not very prepared but all we had on our mind was, 'what the heck have we been studying for the last 3 months, I can't remember anything we studied'! So hopefully I pass that little test I have tomorrow :) Saturday was the best day ever, I just told myself 'after today no more major studying'!! It actually made it a little to easier to study and I was super excited to be done!!

So today was my clinic simulation day!! :) It actually wasn't to bad. I scheduled my cousins and people that I knew so that was helpful. In the morning I was done by about 10 or 10:30 and in the afternoon I was done by 3:00 so it wasn't to stressful. It was good to see one pt. after the other to get used to that, so I felt a little rushed for that reason but it was good to multitask and while I was waiting for an exam I did something else to hurry and get done so it was good.

ANESTHESIA BOARDS!!!!

So spring break was actually fabulous!! I was in St. George for a few days and the weather was great! Got a little bit of a tan and lots of studying done. Also anesthesia boards are done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can I just say that I have never been so stressed out in my entire life! I thought the written was pretty hard. The way they word the questions and answers I was like 'I think I know what they are talking about'?!?! I took almost the whole time to take the test and went and handed by booklet into the guy and turned around to walk out and my eyes started welling up with tears. I really did not think that I had passed. I went out and talked with a few classmates who also thought that it was pretty hard too. I have never been so nervous to get that envelope and my emotions were running very high. I picked up the envelope and walked down the hall a little bit to be by myself. I opened up the envelope and saw that I passed and the tears just started flowing. I was sobbing, I didn't want to turn around to let everyone see me cry so I just stood there for a minute and let it pass. I didn't really realize that everyone was staring at me so when I turned around I was slightly embarassed. I shook my head yes and started crying even harder. I am the biggest dork, seriously, who cries when they pass!!! When we went up to take the clinical I was in the first group to go which I was so excited about, I just wanted to get it over with! My injections went fine, no + aspiration, no osseous contact, it was sweet!!! Thanks Jenny for having such great anatomy and being a great pt. Sorry I can't say the same for myself :) Hallelujah it's over!!!!!

So today I saw a pt. that I saw last semester for the first mockboard (october) and then finished her up by November. The quad that I did for mock had a ton of calculus again!!! What the heck!! I know I cleaned that quad. I guess it just goes to show how important homecare is and also how fast calculus can show back up. I saw another 1B this afternoon (suprise, suprise) and actually got him done pretty quick. It's been good to see 1B's to help work on time management.

So I finished my class 3's whoooooo!!! I'm pretty excited about finishing my class and 3's and that tomorrow is my last day at the VA, for the rest of my life :) I actually really like the VA but it just gives me one extra day to study. So I am excited but I don't have my class 4's done and I don't have a board pt. Wow, I am all of sudden very depressed now thinking of all the things I don't have. On my previous post I posted a video that Jenny and I made when we were going to do a vlog for the semester. Unfortunately, it has taken me for ever to figure out how to do it until one day Miss Kami Hanson set up a viddler account and I started playing around with it. It still is slightly difficult to do so you may not get anymore for the rest of the semester.
Well we are alomost half way through semester which pretty much freaks me out because boards are very close by and I don't feel like I am retaining much. I already have an ulcer due to my constant stress thinking about boards, I can't really function or think about anything else so I can't wait till they are over!!!!!

My first now show this semester!! It was bound to happen. Actually my patient that showed up handed me a TX plan paper, I was very confused. I looked at it and it showed she had been in last week and that she was a class 3. Once I got a translator she had said she had an appt. on Feb 15 but wanted to come in earlier, don't ask me how I got her but I did. Anyway I look at Feb 15 and that is Thurs. mockboard day. Ha ha ha I almost took somebody's mockboard pt. woopsi!! Don't worry I sent her on her merry little way and told her she had to come back on Feb. 15. Crazy semester with all the mix up pt's. In the afternoon I saw my mockboard pt and did x-ray's and 1 quad. Done with PA's and BWX sweet!! It's nice to be crossing things off the list and to think, one requirement down for my last semester!!

So today I did not have a pt. scheduled for this morning due to our huge patient resources we have :) But there was someone in the waiting room that was here with someone else. My afternoon pt. is hopefully going to be my mockboard. I am a little worried about his blood pressure. It was slightly high but not too high so hopefully he can keep it down. The VA is going great, I wish all of our clinic days were at the VA, it rocks!! The best part is we don't have to find patients :) So hopefully this semester will be good and I won't have a ton of no shows like last semester!

So we are just getting back into things and right off the bat struggling to get patients, it's great! It will be harder this semester with the juniors seeing patients also so we'll see how this goes. My morning pt. was a 7 yr. old who had never been to the DDS. He did so I well, I was amazed. I also did 4 sealants on him and he held so still it was fabulous, I can do sealants all day if they are good patients. My afternoon patient I was hoping was going to be full of calculus but no such luck. She was a 1B so hey at least I'm getting off to a good start with hard requirements :) Hopefull next I will have better luck!

Well the first semester is over! It is so wierd that we only have one semester left. It's crazy! Clinic this semester was really good. I had a lot of no shows but still made my requirements (miracle)! I think that my clinical skills really improved this year. I saw way more perio patients than last spring which is what I feel helps you to learn and grow the most. Even though the class III are hard they are my favorite :) Throughout the semester I feel like my skills definetley improved and I could see more things that I needed to work on and started focusing on those things and I became a better clinician (with still a long way to go). So hopefully I can keep progressing and will be able to feel totally comfortable going out into regular practice.

IT'S NOVEMBER!!! Well my pt. this morning was a cl 2, hard cl 2. His calculus was so very tenacious. Thanks to the help of Prof. Hansen I survived. I missed a lot of spots which was a shot to my skills :) But it was a good experience to see someone with that type of calculus so it was very helpful for me to see where I stand on my skills. Of course I had a no show this afternoon, I am the queen of no shows. He was scheduled this morning too!! Luckily Ashley W. was the nicest person ever and gave a quad of cl 3. It to was a great experience. He had a lot of calculus it was sweet. I didn't miss as many spots which helped feel a little better about myself so I guess I won't drop out now!!

MOCKBOARDS!! 10/26

So mockboards were this week. I'll be honest, I was actually kind of nervous for them. I was fine until that morning. You just want to feel like you are doing a good job and feel like you could at least do weell on the boards right now. It was a great learning experience to see where you are at this stage. I know a lot of people were really frustrated but we all need to remember that last spring (first time seeing pt's) we only saw 1 CL III, so this really is our first semester seeing perio pt's and having hard classifications. We just need to remember that we are still in the early stages of perio pt so we are not going to eb perfect yet. I just can't imagine how nervous I am going to be for real boards!!!!!! I can't even think about that right now. AGHHHH!!

The AM lab was pretty funny! The best was when Des dropped Jenny on the floor when she forgot to lock the wheels on the wheel chair. It was seriously the best thing ever!! It was good to actually get to see how to do the saliva check (which is the sickest thing ever!) and the blood glucose. It's nice to be able to feel comfortable with the things you are doing. The PM, not so good, my pt. didn't show up. I was already worried about getting my requirements and now I pretty much know that I won't be able to get them. So, basically I don't know what to do. I have had a lot of no shows here and at the VA and it's been so frustrating because it is slightly out of my control; especially at the VA. It's all good, I'm sure it's a great feeling to fail clinic - I'll tell you guys how it is!!

Today was interesting. Both of my patients had never had their teeth cleaned before in their life. My first pt. was 21 and she had never had her teeth cleaned. I was pretty excited because I like seeing the hard cases because that is how I learn the most. My second pt. was a 27 and had never had his teeth cleaned. He also had a tooth that was exctracted about a week before and no offense, it smelled.....not good :) So that was a little rough, I got two quads done and it was a great learning experience, loved it!!

We finally did the INJECTIONS!! It was sweet! It was not as bad as I thought it was going to be. I didn't even really shake that bad. It also was so much faster than I thought it was going to be. It's kind of nice to be doing something different than scaling too. Its always nice to learn something new. Jenny was my partner and she also did very good. I hardley felt anything, except for of course the dreaded palatal shots :) All in all it was pretty good though.

Clinic was a little different for me today. In the A.M. I filmed Hanson helping students with their instrumentation. I had a couple of trial runs which was nice. I was a little worried about it working out and seeing exactly how it was going to work. I am really excited about it and think it is going to turn out well.
My afternoon pt. had really high blood pressure :( I at least got a full mouth out of it. She will be back soon.
Radiology yesterday as great with the first years. It actually helped me a lot. Explaining things really helps you to do a better job yourself. Plus, the first years are so fun to work with.

Well today was a good day, I HAD PATIENTS! Joelle was the nicest person ever, I saw a pt. of hers that showed up and my pt. wasn't here so she let me take her. I love when they have calculus and it just keeps coming out of the pocket. At least you know you are doing something! My pt. this afternoon was good too, a CL 5 and she was so nice, which is always nice. I have been the TA this semester in 1st year and it has helped me so much. It is totally different when you teach something, it always makes you better. I really had to think about how I fulcrum, explore and probe. It has made me a better clinician when I explain it, hopefully I make sense to the 1st years.

I was hoping for patients with hard classifications today; no such luck. My pt. this morning was a 1B, pretty boring. My pt. this afternoon was fun, let's just say that the language barrier is hard sometimes. When I scheduled the appt. I understood that she was getting her braces on the next day. My pt. shows up and says she is getting her braces off as soon as we are done today. I tried talking to her to explain that it is better to clean after the braces are completely off. I ran to get Lily because she was starting to get frustrated saying, "You want to call my orthodontis!!" In a not nice tone of voice. So the real story is, her wire was taken off and she had an appt. at 1:30 to get the wire put back on, it was 12:45 :) So I managed to just prophy her and give her flouride so her ortho didn't think we slakcers up here at weber and I managed to take x-ray's. I'm hoping to get some harder classifications because I don't have a mockboard and I haven't really seen many class 2's and 3's. At least my 1B classifications are filled.

Well today was my first day back to the WSU clinic. Just like I thought, I forgot almost every part of paperwork. It was great. Luckily I saw my little brother who wasn't very dirty so my scaling went pretty fast. It was kind of stressful remembering everything and then to have Prof. Perry asking me questions (which is good it helps me learn:)) on top of that; I felt like I was forgetting everything. I kept answering 'I don't know' to about 90% of his questions. He definatley knows his stuff, let's hope a little will rub off on me:) I just needed to get my first day jitters out and I will be good to go. All in all not a bad day, I think it helped that my afternoon patient didn't come :)
I also started at the VA on Tuesday. It was a pretty cool. The best part was not having all the paperwork and signatures. I felt like I could concentrate on just cleaning the patient and not everything else. It made it so much easier. So I really like the VA and the one on one with hanson helped me tremendously!!!!

Summer fun & it's over :(

Summer has been so fun and I am so sad school is starting again. It will be great when we graduate but one good thing about being in school is you have three months off in the summer and a month off for christmas, you can't really do that when your working. It will be nice to graduate though.
I had so much fun this summer; I really didn't do anything. I played with my friends baby, she's pretty much the cutest kid ever! I went to cincinnati this summer. It was so much fun. I had never been farther east than Denver (which I would not consider 'east') and Cincinnati was soooo beautiful, I loved it. We went boating, which I haven't done forever and I was sore for about three days but it was so much fun.

We went to the Cincinnati Open, which is a tennis tournament for those that don't know what it is. I have kind of got into tennis a little bit the past couple of years, thanks to my husband. It was pretty cool to see the players up close that I have been watching this past year. It was nice I got to see my tennis boyfriend Andy Roddick (Dave, your still hotter) and also see Robby Ginepri who is also trying to compete to be my tennis boyfriend. As you can see I totally go to the tennis tournaments to see the great game of tennis being played between two great athletes:) I really have appreciated this summer but it was a lot of fun to see everyone at orientation. I really think we do have a great class and I am excited to experience many more things with everyone this year!

Summer is officially over. Today I went and helped with Junior Orientation. I helped with the blogs and yes I did not touch it all this summer! I had better things to do like lay out by the pool and go shopping! I mean seriously, like I'm going to blog. Anyway, as I was helping with the blogs Prof. Hanson had them pull mine up. Ya, there was nothing on there and it looked pretty boring so I thought I would change it up a little and add a few pictures because it was so bad. Plus, I learned a little more about computers this summer and I'm not so afraid to learn how to use them better (I bought a Mac need I say more!!!). This is a picture of my husband and I when we went camping this summer; not a great picture but oh well!!
So I did get a little bit of a stomach ache as I pulled into the dental hygiene parking lot; I just can't believe summer is over. I just kept telling myself two more semesters, you can do it!!! Then I did a little tour for the juniors and I walked into the actual clinic and every sick feeling just came back and I just thought, I HAVE TO FIND A BOARD PATIENT!!!! CRAP!

I saw a 1A today. It was great. Today my focus was going to be time. I tend to talk too much, especially if I am seeing a family that I know. I tried to keep the talking to a minimal during the appt. and then after if I had time I could spend few minutes talking with the mom. It worked pretty well. I stayed focused on the patient and what I was doing. It was great and super fast. I actually really enjoy seeing kids. All my experiences with kids have been great. I don't know if it is because I know them or what but I love seeing kids.

Something I have tried to do lately is do practice using my scalers. I think sometimes I am ultrasonic happy!! The reason I do that is because I am not super comfortable with my scalers, which is BAD! I feel more comfortable the more I use them. I have tried to visualize more where the tip is and my angle instead of worrying about what time it is, am I going to get my pt. out on time. I have tried to limit my ultrasonic to the lower anteriors and to the hard classifications. It has actually gone pretty well.

So all of a sudden I can't do x-ray's! My technique sucks! Isn't this supposed to be the opposite, aren't you supposed to get better with time. I saw my dad and I swear I couldn't take a good bitewing on him, it was soooo frustrating. It is frustrating when you see a family member and they have tons of plaque. I tend to be more blunt and tell them how freakin' gross it is,I need to remember they are still patients but come on, it's sickest stuff ever. I have seen worse but it is frustrating when it's family because they should know better.
I was little worried I wasn't going to get him done. I tried to work really fast and my scaling time ended up being about 1/2 hour which I was pretty excited about. Scaling felt normal today and I could really get to areas, it was great. It is nice as our clinic sessions are coming to a close and I am checking off my requirements, I love it!!!!

I finished my class III today. I talked him into getting numb which made it sooooo much easier. He still felt a few things but definitely not as much. This was one of the first times that I definitely felt calculus too. There were a couple spots that I could feel, got off, then it was smooth. I just haven't cleaned anybody with this much calculus so it was great to actually be able to feel it and notice a difference after. Prof. Alexander had to use the perio files and also place a perio chip. It was nice to be able to see all these things this year. The perio files helped a lot! It is crazy to see how tenacious some calculus really is. My class III was a great experience for me, tiring but good. How many of these do we have to see next semester?!?

I saw my class III today. I wasn't quit sure what my goals were going to be; just get something done. I was a little nervous to see him but it was ok. He didn't really want to get numb which made it a little bit harder for me. It was good experience though. It was cool to really get the ultrasonic down in there and get stuff out. I ended up getting 2 quads done wich I guess is ok. It is really hard to tell if your feeling calculus or just the root/cementum. I still don't know if I really know. A lot of this just comes with time, I just want it to come faster.

I saw another patient off the resourse list. It was a good experience. She was a diabetic, had hypertension and a number of other things. Anyway, her diabetes was uncontrolled. She had been to a dentist in Feb. and told her she had perio. She also informed me that she had some mobility with a few teeth. I never did get to her mouth but I'm sure she wasn't lying. I was unable to see her because her blood/glucose level was so high that morning. It was good to see the correlation between diabetes and perio. If the diabetes is uncontrolled - more likely to have perio. Severe perio - more like to have uncontrolled diabetes. They just work against each other. It was a good experience to do a dr. consult also. Plus I was able to call and get my little cousin in! I finally saw kid :) I was pretty excited to finally get one done. It didn't take very long, which was great! Things in clinic are actually going pretty smooth for me, which I didn't really expect!!

Today was really really difficult and interesting. I saw my first pt. off of the resource list, don't as me how I have gone sooooo long without seeing one yet. Anyway, I wasn't sure what to expect. Just looking at my patient, he didn't really look like he had perio. His gums weren't super red, not alot of supra calculus or plaque. I took x-rays and saw there was quite a bit of boneloss in some areas. #18 was totally leaned over on it's side because #19 was missing. the distal root was totally exposed. I then proceeded to probe and was getting major major probe depths! I got a ten. I took me awhile because I would probe and I would think to myself, did I just really get a 10, so I would probe it again. I had sub calculus. He ended up being a class 3 which was great because I need one. Today was stressful just getting through everything. I am nervous to see him, this will be totally new to me and trying to clean 7-10mm pockets is going to be crazy so I am pretty nervous but it will be a good experience for me so I will report later!!!

Today I saw my little sister and my goal was do as many things as I could on her and get done early. I did get done early but sometimes you can't control the circumstances and she had a cavity so I couldn't seal that tooth like I wanted too. I did a pano and x-rays and got everything done and was done early so I felt like today went pretty well. At least my mom is going to be pretty happy that she had like 4 cavities:)

Well this week was pretty good. I knew my pt. on Monday but I wasn't quite sure what he was going to be. So I wasn't quite sure what my goal was going to be. So my goal was, if he was a 1b, then to get him done. If he was a class 2 then to get half the mouth done. He ended being a class 5. It was a great learning experience though because he had a couple places of bone loss due to restorations but not really any calculus. So he was a class 5. Also he had no plaque and calculus but his tissues were very very red and and didn't bleed with probing but when I scaled he bled like crazy. So Prof. Alexander was like, ' What could cause this bleeding and redness if he has no plaque and no calculus'. Of course I had no idea! It was because he was a very heavy mouth breather. So it was pretty interesting and good to know for future experience!
I enjoyed using the Ultrasonic and can't wait to use it on someone with a ton of calculus! I didn't really like it being used on me but it was ok. I just had a couple sensitive areas but other than that it was ok.

My goal today was to get through everything and work on time management throughout the procedure. I did maybe set an easy goal because I saw my peer pal and I was pretty sure she wasn't going to have much for me to clean :) that's ok though because I sometimes like those very achievable goals, they make me feel good! It did go very smoothly, even though I was slightly nervous for some reason. Next time I think I want to focus and having very thorough paperwork. I always seem to miss a few things and so I really want to concentrate on that next time. Oh, I was happy to because I have never done x-rays and cleaned a pt. in one day; I'm sure it had nothing to do with the fact that she was a very light 1B :)

Today my goal was to take it slow and not try to rush, be relaxed and to not do too much in one appointment. My patient was about 20-25 minutes late and I didn't panic, I just thought well I'll do as much as I can. She was on a couple of medications which took a little longer. She didn't really need x-rays so that did save a little time. Things went really well today. I did get everything done and I wasn't really stressed at all. I wish everyday went this smoothly! It was good!

My goal today was to finish my class II and to not miss any spots. Of course it never works out like I want. This was the same pt. I saw on Wednesday and I don't think I had a really good idea about how much calculus he really had. I knew he had a few calculus spurs (which I had no experience in scraping) but thought I could probably get them. It was so hard to get sooo far back there!! I felt like I really didn't know where to fulcrum to get back there like that. It was frustrating. I think part of my problem too is that I'm trying to do too much in one appointment. I try to get done so they don't have to come in a ton of times and I think sometimes that I try to work too fast and don't really take the time to really "learn" what I am doing. I don't know if that makes sense but I think sometimes I just work so hard to get done in time instead of really thinking about what I am doing. So that is what I really want to work on, if they have to come back then they have to come back, I really want to learn and do a good job to have the best experience I can. Hopefully scaling and doing all of this clinic stuff will become second nature to me also.

My goal today was to get a full-mouth done and get through the OD on my pt. So I could see him on Monday. I thought that it was totally a reachable goal. I knew full-mouths take a long time and my OD's have been going pretty smooth. Well just when you think you have it figured out everything goes completely wrong. Some good things did happen though; I knew he had high blood pressure so I covered my bases and told him that he should maybe get a note from his doctor before he came if he his BP has been consistently high. I am so glad I did that; it was very high and other wise I wouldn't have been able to clean him. The full-mouth was going well until half of them got stuck in the processor. That was fun. So I had to retake half of them and three of those didn't turn out so I had to do three more retakes. I did barely got through the OD so I guess I did reach my goal even though it really doesn't feel like it. So today I learned to not feed your films to fast, even though you are putting them on opposite ends WAIT!! Other than that I don't think I really could have done anything differently. I just hope not all clinics are this stressful because I will definently have and ulcer by mid-term!!

First Day Back!! 1/11/06

Today was pretty crazy!! I thought that there was no way I was going to get done, luckily my pt. was pretty easy. Today was good for me. I felt the flow went really well and I was amazed at how I remembered pretty much everything and when I was supposed to do it. Today my goal was just to relax and get as much done as possible. I wasn't going even think about doing a P.E or an exam. Today was just to get back into the swing of things and not try to do too much! It was great and I felt like it went really well today and scaling felt really good (probably because there was something there actually to clean :) Of course I still need a ton of practice with it because I did miss a few spots but all in all it was a pretty good experience :)

Emergencies today were kind of fun! I just hope they don't happen for REAL!!! I almost let Prof. Costley die today, she had an asthma attack and I wasn't sure what was going on. It was pretty much the worst day ever!!! You know that glass window that is next to the doors in the radiology rooms. Ya, just because you can see through them doesn't mean you can walk through them!! I tried, and it hurts real bad!! Plus I did x-rays on my patient today and I put the film backwards so there was a lead thing on the x-ray's. Plus I broke my Kwik bite thingy in the process too!!! I couldn't seem to remember all the signatures and paperwork stuff too! But I got my x-rays done so who the crap cares!!!!!!!! :)

Well at least I know how some patients will feel when they come in and they have a cavity and they say to me 'I brush all the time, how did this happen'. It is so frustrating. I'm not sure how I feel about insurance companies. For one, I do not understand the waiting period. I mean if I'm paying for insurance I want to be able to use it. My dad had a toothache and come to find out, needed rootcanal and crown. Well, my dad's waiting period had not passed yet so they wouldn't pay for anything. Of course he had to get the rootcanal (because what else was he going to do). He had to wait a year to get the crown when during that time he was paying for insurance he couldn't utilize!! With the way some insurances work, people are sometimes put into more harm because they won't get things done. In a perfect world, people would save their monthly premiums and pay for their dental care, if only!!!

I feel wierd using scalers. For some reason I don't feel like I have a good fulcrum/grip. I don't feel like a have a good hold on the instrument. I don't know it's wierd and hard to explain. Hopefully it will just come with time like the explorer and probe did. I like scaling though. It's hard to tell if we are doing it right on each other because not many of us have anything to clean off. I'm kind of panicking about radiology too. Can you believe we only have like 4 or 5 weeks left!! I seriously don't feel like I'm going to get my pt. tx done, lab partner, and the rest of the x-rays done! It's just kind of crazy and kind of freaks me out to think of how little time is left for the semester. But I guess things will work out.

I wish every week could be like last week! It was great!! Today I realized how slow I actually am. I can't believe we're going to be fast enough to do everything in a couple hours. Good thing we still have like 2 months. Things felt pretty good today though and hopefully it just keeps getting better and better every week!!

SCALERS!!!!!!

So enjoyed being able to kind of use the scalers. It makes it seem real! I feel like things are starting to come a little bit even though I'm still super slow! I'm ok with that right now though. Probing is ok for me but expoloring is still a little scary, I still sometimes catch people in that anterior, oh well they didn't need it anyway!

I'm pretty excitited about or community class. It will be good to be able to understand everything that is going on in our community. It will be something very helpful to us through out our career. Paying our dues is a huge part also. You never know when paying dues will in turn help and support you. Ususally all you can think about is the here and now and not really think about the future. You never know when you may need our prof. do go to bat for us. We need people representing our profession and that is a good way for us to contribute!!

paperwork, paperwork!

So does anyone else hate paperwork as much as me! I don't think I will ever get to cleaning a pt. when we do start because I will be doing paperwork the whole time!! It seriously seems like it takes soooo long. I definently want to have people get me a health history before their appt. , it will be so much faster!

Today we did the disclosing agent. I thought I was the best brusher. I have an Oral-B electric TB, how can I have plaque?!? It was interesting to see where it accumulated. It is easy to miss spots. I have several little pits in my teeth and I couldn't get them out. My husband already thinks I'm an anal brusher, wait till he sees me brush tonight:) I was wondering how patients will feel about this? I wonder if it will be kind of embarrassing for them. Plus, I wouldn't really want my mouth stained blue!

Today wasn't bad, I enjoyed charting. Probably just because I'm comfortable with it. Instructor carter said I may have a cavity, I think she is lying because there is no possible way I can have a cavity! Anyway, it is coming together a little bit. See you all this weekend!!

Well today was pretty good, probing takes FOREVER! Maybe that's just me though. I can't remember 6 numbers either, I'm not so smart! I have to do one tooth at a time and write it down. I also think I'm blind because I can't ever see the lines, is it a 3 or is it 4, who the heck knows? Things are comming together though, I can tell it will all start to feel normal!

Today I felt like things were coming together a little. Probing was easier than I thought. Working on Dexxtr is a probably a little decieving though. I don't know, the fact that my probe got lost in his gums is not an accurate reading!! It was good though. My fulcrum finger is so out of shape though, I have to work that little puppy out!! Anyway, hope things are going well for everyone else!

extra oral

So I love the extra oral, only when someone does them on me :) It feels so good! I am starting to feel like things are coming together, a little bit. Ask me again in a month and it might be different. It's exciting that we are getting into things with instruments and stuff, I think to myself 'I am a real hygienist' almost :) Hope everyone is feeling goog about things!

Well today I decided I am deaf because I can't hear the pulse when I doing vital signs. I personally just think everyone is dead and their heart doesn't beat!! It may just be that everyone is so freakin' skinny so their blood pressure is 100/50!!!
